Success Story: Rodney F.
Rodney admitted to Summit View of Farragut on October 29, 2020 after an exhaustive hospital stay. He tested positive for Covid-19 in September causing pneumonia and other respiratory complications. He ultimately required intubation with tracheostomy on the 11th of September.
He experienced some improvement after initial intubation, however he coded again at the hospital and was successfully resuscitated. Mr. Fair recalls having bizarre dreams at this time and doesn’t remember much given his compromised medical status.
Once Rodney was deemed stable enough for transition from acute care to sub-acute care, he transferred to Summit View of Farragut. He admitted with a tracheostomy and G-tube in place. When asked about the respiratory therapists Rodney stated,
“When I first got here, Steve was the first person I met. I felt nervous and didn’t really know what to expect. Steve made me feel at ease and made me feel comfortable. I can’t say enough good things about the respiratory department.”
With aggressive capping and weaning, Rodney was eventually decannulated on November 2nd.
He received Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy services seven days a week as well. When asked about his skilled therapy, Rodney stated,
“They pushed me smartly. Mandi and Aaron had confidence in me when I didn’t have confidence in myself. Speech fell right in line with that.”
Rodney reports feeling confident about returning home with his wife. He is able to ascend multiple steps safely without physical assistance and walks safely without an assistive device. We feel honored to have had the opportunity to be a part of Mr. Fair’s rehabilitation and know he will do great at home!
Also, we thank Mr. Rodney Fair for his service in the armed forces!
